Frequently ask
question

What if I've never climbed before?

We'll be stoked to guide you on your first climbing experience!
Most of our guests have little or no experience. Our guides will make you comfortable and make sure you have the proper instructions and guidance to learn and enjoy the most out of your experience, and hopefully get the climbing bug.

I have experience.
Will it be too boring for me?

Not at all, there are some more challenging routes available as well, and we can set-up multiple routes. We reccomend booking a private session, so we can pick the routes according to your level. Make sure you let us know your climbing experience beforehand, so we can set-up the routes accordingly.

Can kids do it?
What is the minimum age for rock climbing?

Yes, and they should. Rock climbing is a great and fun way for kids to interact with outdoors and overcome their fears and challenges, and has been proven to help them with confidence and focus.
We usually start the session by making sure they get comfortable with the height and rope/gear, and we gradually let them start going higher as they feel more comfortable.
Our standard minimum age is between 6-8 years old. Feel free to let us know if you have an younger brave one that would like to try it, we will take those case by case.

Are there any limitations?
How do I know if I can do it?

Overall if you are able to climb a ladder, you can experience rock climbing.
We've had kids from 4 to 78 years old climbing with us. If you are able to play, rock climbing is for you!
There is a weight limit of 270 lbs only due to the harness size. Please contact us with your waist size if you have any questions about weight limit.

What if I'm scared of heights?

Then you should definitely try it. There is no better feeling than accomplishing something you thought you couldn't.
Our bodies and minds are capable of so much more than we think or were taught, and growth comes from stretching our comfort zone.
Of course, we will be very respectful of your fears and limitations, and will walk through the overcoming path with you.

How does top-rope rock climbing work?

You will be harnessed up and attached to a rope the whole time. The rope you're tied to goes all the way up the top of the rock, through an anchor system attached to the rock and back down. Your instructor will be holding you from the other side of the rope, and taking the slack of the rope as you climb up.
So if you slip, the rope will catch you right away and you will basically stay in the same place.
Whether you make it to the top or not, the guide can lower you slowly on the rope at anytime whenever you are ready to come back down.

How is my experience going to be?

We will meet at our car, where we will try climbing shoes and gear on. Then, we will move towards the climbing location where we will give you safety and climbing technique instructions.
We want you to have the best experience, so we will help and give instructions along the different climbs your guide set-up for you as well. We will also accommodate the session as we see fit for your experience and level as we progress.
You can climb as many times as you want throughout your session time, respecting turns if you book an open group session.

Do you offer lead climbing?

We don't offer lead climbing, but we can teach you how to sport climb with a back-up rope if you have outdoor experience. Please book a private session in Saddlepeak and contact us for more information.

What if I can't find availability?

Feel free to use the chat, text or call (310) 975-4077, or email us at booking@rocknropeadventures.com, if you don't find availability that works for your schedule. We will do our best to accommodate you and your group.

Do I need to bring any gear for the activities?

No, we provide all the gear for you. If you have any climbing or mountain biking gear and prefer to use yours, you are welcome to bring it with you. Your guide will be happy to check if it works with our safety standards.

Where do we meet and what should I bring?

All specific instructions and directions will be sent to you by email upon booking, according to the activity and location you pick.

Which rock climbing location is best for me?
Do you offer different locations?

Both locations are available for open group or private sessions:
- Point Dume, Malibu, by the beach: slab limestone suitable for beginners to intermediate / scenic climb right by the ocean / easy parking, access and bathrooms / recommended for adults and kids
- Saddlepeak: slab sandstone suitable for beginners to intermediate / on the top of the mountain with scenic valley view / 20-30 minute hike to ge to the rocks / bush bathrooms / not reccommended for little kids due to hike and lack of bathrooms (but we will let you decide for your kids)

What types of classes are right for me?

We recommend a private session if it's your first time rock climbing or if you are an experienced climber, so we can adjust the session according to your level.
We also offer family climbing and group climbing sessions.
Mentoring is available as well if you are ready to grow your climbing skills, and are planning to climb on your own.

What types of gift cards do you offer?
How are they delivered?

The best gifts are the memorable gifts of experience!
We offer activity or cash gift cards, which can be redeemed for any activity of their choice.
Your loved one will receive an email upon purchase with a redemption code that can be used on our website to book it. They can also book by phone or email.
If you want them to receive the gift card at a later date, we recommend using your email address as the recepient, and forward it to them when you are ready to do so.
Gift cards never expire.
